Heated pools in a beautiful setting

We have outdoor swimming pools including an 18m by 9m swimming pool in idyllic surroundings. We also have a smaller children’s pool with a slide and a paddling pool for toddlers and babies.

The main swimming pool is heated from the beginning of April until the end of October. The temperature this year has been kept at a comfortable 26 degrees Celsius thanks to our new environmentally-friendly woodchip boiler heating system installed during 2010.

During the summer we open a kiosk next to the swimming pool selling ice creams, snacks and drinks. Play tennis in an amazing setting, day
and night

Tennis day and night

Exclusive to members only, the two full size outdoor tennis courts are used all year round. The tennis courts can be booked by members by the hour on any day from 9:00am to 10:00pm. The near court can be floodlit for evening games.

Gardens, playgrounds, lawns and trees

St Julians has over 70 acres of beautiful woodland and grounds. The grounds surrounding the house include the flagstone terrace with lovely views, bar lawns for outside dining and drinks, and further lawns dotted with garden beds.

The grounds include kitchen gardens, and vegetable plots that supply our kitchen as well as ornamental plots and woodlands.

St Julians has lots of open spaces for strolling, relaxing and playing. We have an apple orchard, playground in a small wooded area away from the house, and other play areas including sandpit, swings, playhouses and climbing frame.

Our outdoor facilities for children include a hand crafted wood and rope playground with a slide and crawl tube and other fun challenges.

A traditional family pub

Our bar is open all day; we have an extensive wine list, carefully chosen house wines, local real ales, draught and bottled beers and spirits.

If you’re visiting for a morning swim we have a selection of continental breakfast dishes

The bar also serves cappuccino, café lattés, hot chocolates, espresso, regular coffees, other soft hot and cold drinks and a wide variety of snacks. If you’re visiting for a morning swim we have a selection of continental breakfast dishes – pastries, toast and bagels.

Old combined with new

The bar features a wood burning fire for winter use and a pleasant bar lawn with benches for al fresco dining and drinks on fine days. Adjacent to the bar is a games room with a children’s play area, pool table and television. The bar also has a wireless internet connection for Club members’ use. A historic building with an interesting and unique history

St Julians was built in the early nineteenth century by the Herries family who lived in the house continuously until after the Second World War. In 1951 it was extremely difficult for wives and mothers who were professionally trained to continue their careers, particularly before the advent of playgroups, mother & baby groups, etc. St Julians was bought by a group of families and individuals with a view to providing nursery facilities to allow mothers to work part or full time if they wished to do so. The second important motive was to provide restaurant and leisure facilities for people living at St Julians and their friends.

A Members’ Club was formed in 1956 with the provision of a bar. The Club developed rapidly when the main outdoor swimming pool was opened in 1963. The west field was acquired in 1967 and the woods, purchased in 1983, make a total of some 78 acres. It is now a Club and owned overall by a Trust.

Facilities are available for family parties and various functions, including wedding receptions, exhibitions and conferences. From 1984 to 1994 there was an indoor heated exercise pool with sauna. The remainder of the house is converted into flats and many of the residents work within the organisation.

“There is certainly a plethora of restaurants in Sevenoaks but most Friday evenings we find ourselves driving past them all to dine at St Julians. The food is delicious, very reasonably priced and well presented. In fact better value for money would be hard to find.”
