House Rules

These rules, together with our Club Rules, constitute the rules by which members and their guests must conduct themselves while visiting St Julians.

Types of membership

The Club facilities are located on the ground floor of St Julians and in the grounds and consist of a bar and restaurant with several comfortable rooms and outdoor spaces for drinking, dining and relaxing, swimming pools (April to October), tennis courts, play areas, gardens and a woodland walk. The Club is open for breakfast, lunch and evening meals throughout the year and has beautiful spaces available to hire for parties.

Full membership covers the use of all Club facilities.

Country membership is for those whose primary address is over 10 miles in a direct line from St Julians. It is the same as Full membership but with a lower fee.

Social membership is for the use of the bar and restaurant facilities of the Club, some play areas and gardens (excluding the fenced pool area).

Social members may not use the swimming pools, tennis courts and are not entitled to enter the fenced swimming pool area or use the play areas within the fenced pool area, or buy Guest Tickets (see ‘Guests’) for themselves or their guests to use these facilities.

Arriving at St Julians

Club open daily from 8am until late.

St Julians is open daily throughout the year, except Christmas Day. Club opening hours vary seasonally.  The Club opens from 7am from 1 April to 31 October.

Please enter through the welcome area at the front of the house where you will be greeted and signed in at the welcome desk.

Guests must also be signed in here on arrival.

Speak to the welcome desk to arrange a table for drinking or dining and make general enquiries.

For Full & Country members, this is also where you book the tennis courts, sign in to gain access to the swimming pools (April to October), and pay for guests for swimming (April to October) and tennis.

Members are asked to stay with and carefully supervise their children whilst visiting St Julians.

Restaurant and Bar

St Julians is open every day and evening for drinking and dining.

All members may use our bar and restaurant facilities including barista coffee, breakfast, lunch, snacks, evening meals and drinks for members and their guests (see ‘Guests’).

You can book a table in advance by telephone, or you can organise a table when you arrive at the Club. Sunday lunch is particularly busy.

We offer full table service if you would like it, and you can also order drinks and coffee at the bar. Please order food at your table with a member of waiting staff.

The swimming pools are unsupervised, and we do not have lifeguards. Our swimming pool rules apply.

The pool area is accessible with a coded entry.

Child members under 16 must be accompanied by an adult member, who is responsible for their conduct and safety, when in the fenced pool area and must be supervised at the poolside when swimming.

Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult member when in the fenced pool area and must be supervised at the poolside when swimming. If their parent(s) are on the premises they must also be poolside to supervise their children.

We have an outdoor shower and changing cubicles for members use. Please do not leave your belongings in the cubicles while you swim.

The ice cream kiosk is open on sunny days.

Gardens & play areas

The gardens and children’s play areas including the sandpit, swings & playground are open to all members during Club opening hours.

As the fenced pool area is ‘out of bounds’ to Social members, the play areas by the pools are only available to Full & Country members.

All our inside tables and outside bar lawn and terrace benches are available only to those drinking and dining from the Club.

You are very welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the further grounds.

We request that no glasses, bottles or crockery are taken beyond the bar lawns and terrace. Some dishes on the menus are available to order for takeaway into the gardens and pool area: speak to a member of staff when ordering. Disposable BBQs are not permitted.

We have a football area, badminton and table tennis for member’s use. You can borrow racquets, bats and balls at the welcome desk.

We have a lovely 2km woodland trail for all members to enjoy. Look out for wildflowers, birds and lots of different trees in our woodland.

The Club has a strict ‘no dogs’ policy which also applies to our meadows and woodland.

Please can parents accompany their children at all times when in the gardens and play areas.

Guests

All adult members (18+) may entertain guests at the Club.

All guests must be signed in by their accompanying adult member upon arrival at the Club, who must remain with them for the duration of their visit.

For each membership household up to six guests are permitted per day visiting the Club.

There is no charge to bring guests to the Club to eat and drink and you do not need to tell us in advance that you are doing so, however you may like to book a table to avoid disappointment.

When entertaining a group larger than the guest allowance for a visit for a meal, members may hire a private room.

Guests may only remain at the Club with the member who has signed them in, and the member is responsible for payment of purchases made at the Club during the guests’ visit.

The same guest may not visit St Julians Club more than four times in any one period of twelve months, with the view that they would be interested in joining in their own right after this number of visits.

Swimming & Tennis Guests

Full and Country members over 18 may invite guests to join them poolside, swim and play tennis for which there is a daily fee (‘Guest Ticket).

The Guest Ticket fee is £12.50 and applies to all guests age 3+.

You must buy Guest Tickets in advance of using the facilities. Pay by telephone or at the welcome desk when you arrive at the Club.

A Guest Ticket is required for a non-member guest to play tennis. You can pay either when booking or at the welcome desk before you play.

When bringing non-member guests to the Club when you are swimming or entering the fenced pool area during your visit please note the following:

  • A Guest Ticket is required for a non-member guest to use the pools.
  • A Guest Ticket is required for every non-member guest within the fenced pool area, even if they are not swimming.
  • Your guests must remain with you for the duration of the visit e.g. they may not wait in the Club while you swim, they must join you poolside and the Guest Ticket fee applies.
  • If you bring a family of guests to the Club and any of those guests will be swimming with you, Guest Tickets will be required for the whole family of guests. e.g you must pay for the parents even if it is only the children swimming.
  • We do not have lifeguards. As with member children, guest children must be adequately supervised when poolside and swimming by their parent(s) if they are at the Club. The Guest Ticket fee applies.

Please note that Guest Tickets may be limited on the busiest days at the discretion of the Club.

Children

Members are asked to stay with and carefully supervise their children and child guests whilst visiting St Julians and are responsible for their safety, conduct and behaviour. Do not drop your children off at St Julians for an unsupervised visit.

Children included in a family membership aged under 16 and guests under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult member when visiting any part of the Club.

Children included in a Family membership aged between 16 and 18 may come unaccompanied to St Julians on the understanding that these House Rules shall be respected, however they are not permitted to bring guests to the Club (see ‘Guests’).

Nannies

If you have a nanny and you would like them to bring your children to the Club, the nanny also needs to be a member of the Club.

We make a special arrangement for a named nanny to be included on a family membership. There is a fee for this. Click on the link below for more information.

Conduct

Please be respectful of other member’s personal space and be mindful of other members when taking photos or videos at the Club. Please also be respectful towards the Club staff.

When leaving the Club at night, please leave quietly so as not to disturb our residents and neighbours. You are not permitted to play amplified music at St Julians unless by prior arrangement. Smoking and vaping are not permitted within the grounds of St Julians. The designated smoking area is in the car park.

We ask that members do not play ball games in any areas where people are dining or relaxing in the grounds: football may only be played in the area designated above the orchard.

Adults and children must wear suitable clothes and footwear inside the Club and adjacent to the house on the bar lawns and terrace: swimwear, towels and bathrobes are not sufficient.

The upper floors and certain other areas of the house and gardens are private residences. Please abide by the notices identifying areas that are out of bounds to members. The outbuildings and fenced kitchen garden are out of bounds to Club members.

We cannot take responsibility for property lost but items, if found, will be stored in the Club until the end of the summer each year.

First Aid accidents and incidents must be reported at the welcome desk. If you need help please speak to any member of staff who will alert the first aid qualified member of staff on duty. First aid kits are located at the following places: Kiosk, Bar, Kitchen, Welcome Desk and Club Office. Two fully automatic defibrillators are on the premises: on the decking and in the pool area.

In case of a fire alarm please follow fire exit signs and go to the assembly point in the upper car park. In the case of a false alarm or drill do not re-enter the house until a member of staff instructs you that it is safe to do so.

The House Rules have evolved over the years since the Club’s formation in 1956. Failure to adhere to the rules of St Julians Club may result in suspension or termination of membership.

Membership is non-transferable and only applies to the named person(s) included in the membership.
